That DL and closing down bit makes sense when I think about, I had problems with my DM and CM closing down the same person all the time, pulling both players to challenge one opposition player which was a bit pointless, will have a closer look at the rest of the replies when I get home tonight.

But thanks for the replies lads you have given me something to think about.

I am Dinamo Zagreb manager and I have beat Man Utd in Champions League 4-1. I played OFFENSIVE TACTICS and in OPPOSITION INSTRUCTIONS I played hard on each player ( not van der Saar ) and I put always THIGHT MARKING and CLOSING DOWN. This is great for minor teams against mayor teams. With that tactics I also beat Celtic at Parkhead.

I want to change the title of this thread to The Blind leading the blind, there seems to be loads of people asking similier questions, I think if a few of us no-hopers band together we can create a great tactic between us.

I had a lot of trouble with this formation in 07 and frankly never really got it working successfully - that's not to say it isn't possible, but you may want to consider 4-4-2...

Firstly are you playing patched or not? If not then you'll want to increase the closing down for your centre backs to try and counter the bug with that (or just patch).

Also I'd consider having your attacking midfielders on mixed passing and your strikers on short passing.

Also try having the team play with tight marking checked and see if it helps defensively.

And if you haven't already I suggest nominating viduka as the target man and having him hold up the ball, maybe even use a barrow to have him drop a little deeper to collect the ball and hold it up, giving your midfielders more chance to get involved with the play.

And finally try upping the tempo and probably the width a bit.

4-1-2-2-1 thats with veloso anchor, alex& riqeuleme centre mids and fernandez& saivet on flants with rossi up top on his own. been using same tactic home and away but less creativity when away from home. same thing has happened in europe.
the team has a lot of flair and is v attacking but just cant buy a win at home!!

Sorted out the closing down, dl and mentality issues, I am still having problems with 2 players closing down the same player is it a case that these to players are 2 close to each other in terms of mentallity and on field position.

AS well as the above question I need to know about Man/zonal marking - is it best to just play all your players on one type of marking or mix it up? ie have all 11 man marking or zonal marking or have a few zonal and a few man

All on zonal is generally best.

You might occasionally want to man mark a specific opposition player if you're up against a superior team and are looking try and stop their playmaker.

Cheers, i have always used zonal in previous games but for some reason swapped to man marking this game round and have struggled.
