This thread states that "silver stars are for youth/young players iirc", but to be honest, that opinion was based on comments in this thread wgich again is really just supposition as there has been no official comment from SI.

I've looked through as many old threads as the search tool will throw up and all we have are guesses.

I've even used the tutorial for the first time ever but that doesn't explain the difference either.

I've even had a look through Miles' old blogs and I can't find anything there either.

Would it be possible for someone involved in the production of the game to explain the how some of these features work please, (this feature in particular).

It doesn't tell you in the manual you get with the game.

SI haven't given an answer in any thread on here that I can find.

if you want a opinion i would say that silver stars are for players who are not good enough to get gold stars, this is my experience of it

I'd definitely like to know this as well. Would it not be easier in FM 09 to do a star (gold/silver) with a black number in the centre of it? Counting how many stars each player has is a pain.

Hover your mouse over one of them and it tells you everything you need to know. Gold stars are a rating of the player compared to the expected team standard, and white stars are a rating for youth players compared to the team standard of players in that age group.

I just don't understand why some older players are white and some younger guys are gold.

Doesn't do that in the coach reports in my game .

I thought Gold Stars were for first teamers and their CA. Alot of silver stars would be a youth player or up and coming star's PA.

i'm still guessing. even after reading the tool tip i can't see how one 15 year old gets 1 gold star yet another gets 6 silver stars when peple here say that the silver are for youth players.

It doesn't do that in any of my player coach reports, and it doesn't seem that what you are saying it says is accurate either.

Have a look at this coach report.

First of all, the player concerned is 20 years old.

In the ability section he is being compared to a youth player in the Reserves. He is getting silver stars for abilty despite not being a youth player. I am assuming at this stage that it is because he was being compared to a youth player .

In the potential section he is again being compared to the same youth player in the Reserves, yet he is now being rated in gold stars rather than silver stars. Maybe it's because he is being rated as a good First Division striker of the future .

It still doesn't make any sense to me even with the stiff that isn't appearing when you hover over the stars .

Sorry I should have mentioned that I first saw the tips when hovering over the stars when I installed the Flex skin. This skin added a current ability column to the selection screen and when I hovered over it there was a bunch of text explaining what the stars were.

Even so I still don't understand who gets gold and who gets silver stars. It is all over the place.

Silver stars represent the players ability compared to other players of the same age, gold start are compared against everyone of all ages.
