Ah gotcha! This is actually a thread about the rising freshman show on CBS, that has just been given a full season run, Jericho. By the way this post contains spoilers (I'm sure eventually the thread title will get changed).
This thread is in part for benefit of Herman:

The concept of the show is about a small town in Western Kansas that has witnessed a mushroom cloud appear over the horizon in the direction of Denver. Initial thoughts are of an accident, until the kid who helps out at the supermarket receives an answerphone message from his mother who has witnessed and presumably killed by a blast in Atlanta.
This show features several interesting characters.
Jake: Son of the town's mayor who has been 'away' for 5 years. Much speculation about where he has been for the past 5 years, he himself has mentioned Armed services, playing Baseball, Medical training, screw-up. But certain facts are shown: He can perform a tracheotomy, he knows about explosives, can drive really fast, can shoot a gun while running. He also seems to want some inheritance from his Grandfather, that his father has refused to give him. He also seems to be living in San Diego, which is one of the cities hit in the attacks.
Eric: Jake's brother and Peyton Manning look-a-like. He's the deputy mayor and married to the Doctor at the Health Clinic, but he also is having an affair with the owner of the local bar.
Hawkins: A suspicious character, who it appears had prior knowledge to the attacks. Whether that means he was part of the group that carried out the attack, or part of the government who had known about the attack and sent operatives out to the communities for support following the attacks is still unknown (it could even be something else)
Dale: Kid who works at the Supermarket, parents killed in Atlanta blast. Likes the 'head girl' from the town Skylar, the two of them rode out the fallout storm at her house, but as not to lose her position amongst her friends has again gone back to disliking Dale. Dale also trekked 5 miles to where the supply train had been left abandoned and has restocked the supermarket.
Confirmed cities that have been hit:
Denver
Atlanta
New York
San Diego
Philadelphia
Chicago
Dallas
San Francisco
Seattle
St Louis
Minneapolis
Kansas City
Detroit
Cincinnati also hinted at but not confirmed. The only complete link that those 14 cities has is NFL Franchises (16 of the 32 teams would be affected by those blasts).
For those waiting for the UK screening, it will apparently start on the Hallmark Channel followed by ITV2.
