Why does he have to win something to win Sports Personality of the Year? Alot of pressure was placed on his shoulders before he even took to the grid for his first race, after what he'd achieved in GP2 and his karting days. But to perform the way he did, and to keep pace with the experienced drivers was phenominal, when he could have quite easily cracked. To then continue to race how he did through all the arguements etc. with Alonso and through the spygate scandal was impressive also, and having not raced on some of the tracks ever before, to finish 1 point off the title is truly incredible for a debut season.

Erm, he did crack.

He had a 17 point lead over Raikkonen with 2 races to go and lost.

If you read what I wrote, I said that he didn't crack in the first place when he had all the pressure of doing this, that and the other in the GP2 and karting.

Lol, so bitter. I'd damn well move to switzerland if I was earning that much money in a job that didn't require a base in the UK, and numpties kept hassling me everytime I went out of my house.

If Ricky beat Floyd, then he should win it.

If not may as well give it to Hamilton who had a recordbreaking debut season.

Ricky should win. Then possibly Toseland or Hamilton.

Where though is Jamie Murray?

All this pressure ? No one was expecting him to go out and challenge for race wins from the off being his first season in f1 plus he was better prepared than any other rookie would have been after being brought through Mclaren for the last however many years.

Hatton Calzaghe or Tozeland for actually winning titles would be in there.

Part of me agrees, but I can't help thinking that you're talking about a driver who was 13 points ahead with 2 races to go, 17 points ahead of the eventual champion. And he managed to lose it.

You might argue that that is at least partially the team's fault - although the circumstance of that tyre blowout was largely his fault. The point is that surely someone worthy of the accolade of the best of British would have taken the decision to come in there on his own. Had he done so, he would be the champion and, let's face it, were he champion there'd be no debate as to who deserved it.
