Is the Chelsea Pizarro signing a bad sign for the club?
Why on earth have we got this Pizarro bloke? Surely this isn't just an attempt to cut spending? If so, they've gone too far the other way.
I've seen Pizarro play for Bayern and he seems distinctly average and at 28, he doesn't possesses the pace of future fruit that the Chelsea attack desperately need. I think this move has come about for the wrong reasons, Pizarro isn't a world class player and I don't believe he will provide decent competition for Drogba and Shevchenko. I hope he makes me eat my words, but I can't see it happening. I think him warming our bench a far more likely option.
I'm all for Chelsea cutting back their spending but surely they've got the mix wrong? I never expected us to sign Villa but we needed a striker with a bit of zip and hunger when Drogba isn't around - Pizarro is definitley not it. Our squad is suddenly looking a lot older too, of course 28 isn't ancient but when you consider the first team will consist of Ballack (30), Sheva (31), probably Makelele (33) and a guys like Drogba (29) and Lampard (29) starting to slow down AND Man Utd's recent double coup... this latest signing seems to me, a somewhat bad sign.
