Default Filming a gig on your camera/phone

I know its been mentioned on here before and people generally thought why do people do it. I can understand taking a few minutes of footage and a few pics just so you can show people you were there etc. But went to see Kings of Leon last night and women infront filmed the whole gig on her camera

They were good seats aswell right next to the stage, so why bother. She may aswell just buy the dvd of the gig as she watched it all through a tiny display on her camera. And when she watches it back the sound will be crap anyway like they always are

I find myself recording quite a lot more of a gig than I would plan to, each time something good happens I just think.. "I want to remember this forever" type thing, especially if a little drunk.

On the other hand, as soon as I stop taking photos/recording I start enjoying the gig so much more. I think I'll stop doing it altogether

If the event is that spectacular you'll have a far more impressive recollection of it in your head than you could ever get from a mobile phone video.

The biggest enemies of a steward are FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY and RECORDING EQUIPMENT.

You also have to ask yourselves how often they'd play it back to themselves since it would likelty be a poor quality recording.

Yeah noticed this at a Hard-Fi gig not long ago.

Expecting it to be worse when i see Joe Satriani next year though.

People with ridiculously good cameras to record it - you can understand. As said, they may be bootlegging it and at least at the end you'll have a good quality video (evn if you do miss the actual performance yourself).

But i've seen people record huge chunks of a gig on their mobile phone, which is stupid because there's no chance they'll ever watch the video - because the audio will be beyond shocking and the video too will be jumpy and s**te.

This annoys me so much while I'm at a gig and doubly so when some idiot tries to show what an awesome gig it was by thrusting their phone in my face at work.

It's sad and shows proving that being there is more important than to these people than actually enjoying it.
