Default Parmentino cheese -- what the hell is it?

I buy it at the local supermarket. I put it in my food -- it's delicious. It's like parmesan cheese, like romano cheese, but it's neither. It's something else. And I can't find any information about it. Google doesn't help me. It shows up as an ingredient in a few recipes (all in Portuguese). Cheese.com has never heard of it. Does anyone here know what it is?

I bought some burgers from M&S a couple of months ago and didn't notice they had Roquefort cheese in them. Won't be making that mistake again, nasty nasty stuff. :/

Probably. In my head I keep hearing Lewis Black saying, "It could be zebra cum. You! Don't! Know!"

Roquefort is very nice.

But what is parmentino? Am I the only one who has even heard of it?

Maybe it's made up...seeing as they can't use Parmigiano or any other registered trade marked or protected name. So they mixed Parmigiano-and some other tino ending cheese variety.

That's a good idea. Still, it looks like anybody and everybody can use "Parmesan" or "Parmesão", so why go to the trouble? A couple of Brazilian recipe sites mention it as a different type of cheese, but give no further information. I'm confused, but still eating it.
