Roadways is on a distinguished road
Default Dumbass tale of getting locked out

This evening I had to go to our works Disaster Recovery site to allow an engineer to do some out of hours maintenance on one of the servers.

At that time of night there is no security on site, and I had two separate passes on me; one to get into the building and one for the floor which we occupy.

I went out to go to the gents after having been there an hour and a half and on returning to let myself back in realised I had not got the right pass with me.

Fortunately I had my mobile with me and managed to get hold of someone to cancel the engineer visiting. The keyholder for the site was uncontactable and one person offered to drive 45 minutes to come out with a spare pass.
Now should I have let her do that and thus allow the work to get done or was I right to stop her from coming all that way?

One thing is for sure I am going to be a laughing stock at work tomorrow.

The irony is that I always nag the missus about making sure she has her keys and stuff yet this sort of thing only happens to me.

Anyone else got tales of being a tool and locking themselves out of work or home?

When helping a mate move once, we managed to first lock the keys in the van, then about half hour after managing to get back into it, locked ourselves in the back of it (the locks were fucked on the doors, and the wind blew the door shut)

The first time I met an ex-gfs parents was after we'd had to break into their house after she'd forgotten her key. Pretty awkward really

I once got home with the keys in my hand ready to unlock the door, saw a newspaper sticking in the letterbox, reached in to take the newspaper out and accidentally dropped my keys through the letterbox.

Through no fault of my own; I was locked out of my bedroom twice during freshers week.

Each one coming after a big night so I had no way of getting in until the morning when I could get help from the site officers.

First time around was fair enough - bad luck. After a night on the 'lounge' floor, the locksmiths arrived at 1pm. Cue my bafflement as he brings out a hammer and just smashes away at the lock like an ape with a stick. Crazy thing is that after 3 minutes of solid thumping, he managed to open the door. After a little bit of tinkering with the lock they left. /relief

Second time came after a very heavy night. A faulty ATM ate my credit card and I stumbled back to the flat mightily drunk. I just wanted to grab some sleep and pass out on my bed when 'irk' the lock is broken AGAIN. The restof the group were having a chat in the 'lounge' when they heard a "****'S SAKE" and few kicks of a door. I ended up crashing out in the hallway.

Of course, I wake up in the morning covered in marker pen and ketchup. Not very fun considering the fact that I can't get into my room to get a towel etc to have a shower. So there's me - waiting for the locksmith - stinking of ketchup and feeling as rough as I look.

Locksmith arrives late as it's a Sunday. Turns out he's the head locksmith and actually brings out some proper 'locksmith tools' to do the job. Dismantles the lock and identifies the problem before proceeding the fix said problem. A Pro.

If it happens again then I think i'm going to jump out a window.

I was paranoid about locking myself out of my old flat. Always careful and always had my keys. On my last day in the flat I was sorting out my stuff, packing up etc and I took some rubbish out. Forgot my keys, and locked myself out. So I spent 3 hours sitting in the sun on the bubble wrap I was throwing away waiting for my flatmate to come home. The last day.
