Comparing the three main Football Channels In this thread I will compare the strengths and Weaknesses of the TV coverage that BBC, ITV and Sky Sports offer. In the Studio
This is where the BBC comes strong. They have seasoned campaigners in this arena such as Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen and sometimes Mark Lawrenson, and despite the sheer incompetence of Alan Shearer. Their experts offer good views but not too aggresively. Sky and ITV, on the other hand, have experts who aren't in the same class, Jamie Redknapp and the, to quote Alan Hansen, "diabolical" Andy Gray, who just seems completely willing to go on and on about nothing. ITV, similarly, have experts that are simply inept and offer no opinions or views at all.
Ratings: BBC - 8/10 ITV - 4/10 Sky - 3 and a half/10 In the Commentary Box
There really is much of a muchness in terms of commentary. All 3 are spearheaded by experienced commentators and charismatic summarizers. But they are separated by the sheer stupid hilarity of David pleat. He is such a tool that he is hilarious and that alone is separates ITV and the BBC. By the way, I think that martin Tyler is an excellent commentator but he is let down by the buffoon that is Andy Gray.
ITV: 9/10 BBC: 8/10 Sky: 7/10
So, overall, the BBC is the best by 3 marks and has overall the best package to the viewer. Unfortunately, they don't show much live football due to broadcasting rights. |
