 Nicky Shorey
I thought Nicky Shorey had a very tidy calm game in what was a tough baptism - to play Brazil. Of course he probably does not have the talent of Ashley Cole, but I think it is time such players are given a chance. There are a number of players who are not playing for the big 4 Premier clubs but who are used to playing to their potential and delivering under pressure every week. Unlike some of the bench warmers or cosseted stars (helped by their foreign team mates) of the big 4 who think they are superstars, but then do not deliver in the heat of international battle. I think some more Nickey Shorey type players, from the smaller Premiership clubs, should be in the squad and around the team to pressure the costed stars who sometimes seem to have the wrong attitudes. I think there are some big names who genuinely care about playing for England and deliver - Beckham, G Neville, Owen. Whilst others seem a bit patchier when they leave their clubs Lampard, Ashley Cole (Rooney?). Including players like Shorey acts an incentive for players to play, perform and deliver week in week out for a PL team and not be a cosseted big 4 player (like SWP, Richardson).
