As far as tactics go it's a shame you have to resort to building or borrowing a killer tactic.
You may have noticed from the way you're often skinned by the computer that there are two keys to a Rambo tactic at the moment:
Defensive midfielders and players playing forward to the byline.
If you play with a flat back three and one very good DM who slots back into defence as well, or two DM's who don't you're halfway there.
By having pacey wingers defeating the defence (for some reason there's a bias towards the left doing better BTW), making sure passes go down both flanks, that they cross from the byline and cross to head you defeat the long shots/can't aim to save his mother's life bug.
I've also found that if you keep passing set to short you'll also defeat the teeth grinding that comes with your players kicking the ball into oposition midfielders who then sprint 60 yards and score.
