Haven't time t play an awful lot, but have tried playing with Nottm Forest and Mansfield, and no matter what tactics I emply I always seem to have a disastrous start. Ten games in I haven't won a single match with the Stags, indeed losing my first game 11-0 at home to MK Dons. I know I can't expect Rooney-esque performances from Grant Hlot, but there's no way I should lose 11-0 at home to anyone. I actually checked I'd put a goalkeeper in!
Any suggestions? And for those of you without jobs etc who have more time on their hands than someone in Guantanamo Bay and play relentlessly, please don't maul me with insults and ridicule. I'm considering chucking the game as it's no fun whatsoever.
Cheers.

Go to the tactics and training forum and download a proven tactic.
If you still can't win check the GPTG and maybe download some training schedules to help your current players improve.

I have found that the the preset tactics actually work pretty well. Pick a formation that suits the players you got and then use the presets for individual instructions. Pull the full backs forward runs down to mixed might be a good idea though. As the game is at the moment a slight defensive mentality might work out best. If you play wide you will find that your players will spend a lot of time on the wrong side of the opponents when defending so go with normal or narrow width. Combine it with direct quicked tempoed counter attack and you will probably don't win everything but you probably wont lose it all either.

I was playing a wide game, with short passing slow tempo, as it was summer and the pitch was in ok condition. Just played Peterborough, and lost 3-1, after playing 442 normal with standard instructions albeit with a defensive mindset. I keep getting hammered 4,5, even 6-0 at home, yet I sometimes have more shots on target. I'm swiftly losing faith and considering sticking on Civ4. I don't have time to cionstantly tweak every minute detail and examine each and every stat. Is that what gamers have told SI Games they wanted?
I'm teetering on the brink of binning this infuriating and fun-less 'game'.

That's what being a real manager is about. Finding a good tactic. That's why the winning teams are playing so well. Where they are positioned in on tactics and the time the Manager put in to find the right positioning for his players.

| Did what you said, then lost 5-1 at home to Darlington. Surely I can't be the only chap having these problems? I mean, there's a run of poor form then getting results worse than Derby!
Shocking.
And f***ing infuriating.

| Short and slow requires very good players. Football outside the highest leagues aren't always beautyful to watch but you can't expect your players to play above their own ability. Narrow, defensive, quick and direct.

Oops you posted before I got my response off. Give the tactic you set up a few games, it will take time for the players to adopt. I had decent success over the seasons playing like this and getting my team to overachieve in the process. Team talks, prematch media comments affects morale and performance aswell.
If nothing else works go to the tactic and training forum and find detailed tactical help.

Maybe it is too hard but FM06 was far to easy. I think FM07 had a good mix but it was to easy to make money in FM07.
