Default Obstruction Rule

any1 know the rules for obstruction in the area? i thought it was an indirect free-kick awarded

Pretty sure it is, although it is very rarely seen in real life. Usually it seems to result in either a penalty or no action at all.

You're are correct, obstruction should be an indirect freekick however as dafuge has said it's an offence that has more or less vanished from the modern game.

I do remember FM07 treating it as a direct freekick & as such any infringment in the area resulted in a penalty , not noticed it in 08 yet.

oh lol, ive had a few penaltys given against me for obstruction so i thought id ask. but i suppose the game picks a random offense to give the pen for so it doesnt really matter

It's not a case of picking a random offence I think that SI have simply got the coding wrong on this one.

Obstruction no longer exists. It is 'impeding' and punishable by a direct free-kick

According to law 12 impeding an opponent is still only punishable with an in-direct freekick.

I get players booked for obstruction in about every second game!
