The reappearance of an old unwelcome friend... Well I had FM08 for christmas and have put in a good few hours playing it since. I have generaly quite enjoyed it, however it seems that there has been a re-occurence of one of the traits that has annoyed me since the 2d match engine was introduced, namely that almost all the goals are being scored by strikers in games.
This plagued CM4 to a ridiculous extent as some of you may remember; I frequently had strikers getting 50 goals a season on that version of the game. Gradually though the match engine has been improved culminating in FM07 which was a joy to play. Sure it had a few glitches, like wingers practically never cutting in and youd be lucky if one of your full bakcs scored from open play in a seaaon but nonetheless, there was a far more even distribution of goals throughout the team.
Now we come to FM08. So far I have played 13 games with Cardiff scoring a healthy 25 goals. Shockingly only 1 of these goals has come from someone other than McLean and Fowler, and that was from a header following a corner. The main problem seems to be that the vast majority of goals come from breakaways; that and the fact that whenever anyone apart from my strikers has a chance they belt it wide or pass it back to the keeper. Its a shame because I find that it makes the game so unrealistic.
Anyone else noticing this problem or is it just me? |
