Albion Rovers - First Division - Season 2007/08
Turning point of the pre-season was selling the aforementioned 8.20-averaging AMRLC to Kilmarnock for £650k + a friendly. Not bad value for a free transfer. As a result, we now have £1.5m in the bank, still not enough for the board to expand our sorry excuse for a stadium.
We enter the season on a high, having defeated the likes of Leeds, Partick and Oldham in pre-season friendlies. We jumped 2nd after 17 games, about 10 points behind leaders Gretna. 11 league games later, we had taken the top spot and had a 5 point difference to 2nd place.
At that point, a massive 6-pointer at Cliftonhill went wrong as my captain DC scored his 3rd own goal of the season to gift Gretna with a lucky 1-0 win

. We kept battling on though, and coming to the last day of the season we only needed to do better than Gretna to win promotion. Winning that game meant that Albion had won the First Division for the first time since 1934
Massive difference to last season was the fact we had not just one, but two strikers on double figures. The AMRLC was replaced with the 18yo AMR who scored 3 and assisted 16 in 39 games. The rest of the first team are around 24yo and looking like improving with each game. I just hope i can keep them together for our first season in the Premierleague, as the offers for the captain DC, the D/DMR, the DMC and our key SC keep flying in.
