Rep Power: 0 | Oh when the Saints, go marching in... My copy of FM has made it across the sea and I am ready to start my first game. I intend to take advantage of Conference N/S and have decided upon St. Albans as the team of choice. No funds available, no transfer budget, the Saints may be rich in history but little else. I just checked the table IRL and they are firmly in the drop zone, so this should prove to be a good challenge.
This will also be my first attempt at an update. Go Saints! |

Rep Power: 0 | Completed my first season. A woeful collection of strikers and defenders and a fairly high concentration of midfielders has led me to alter my usual formation. My most talented lads are no longer lads in that they are all in their mid to late 30s and all three of them have signalled their intention to retire. At least the wages will falls precipitously next season.
Started the season with an 8 game winless streak. Finally, able to win one, and by mid season had put together a few modest winning streaks to the point that we finally escaped the drop zone. Discovered that my left winger was a far better playmaker than my center mid, so we became a disticntly left handed squad.
Cups were a sore subject for the board, as we lost in the 1st round of the FA cup and trophy.
Defense leaked goals at an alrming rate, but the winger kept feeding the right guys and we won our share to end the season in 13th. THe board are delighted and supporters very pleased. It helps when expectations are low at the start of the campaign. Now if only I can figure out a way to draw more than 400 fans consistently, we might do something about the 100K debt.
Go Saints! |

German boards are like that. They all expect to relive some glory time in their heritage. Last vesitges of Prussian martialism or something.
reddbaron,
You got your copy of FM already? So unfair! KUTGW. |

Rep Power: 0 | I also started at St Albans, well, started unemployed and took over 6 games in, immediately got us on a winning run and shot up the table to 2nd, then with some cunning management got us down to 14th. We finished 9th which I was fairly happy with.
Oddly enough I was given transfer funds of 7k from when I took over, must have been an incentive to take on a crap team! |

Didn't think that I crossed the line as far as tactics, but I will keep such discussions to a minimum in the future. :o
Now as far as the continuing saga of my Saints squad, my greybeards all followed through on their threats to retire, despite my pathetic requests that they reconsider. One of them looks to have the potential to be a good coach, so he has taken the position of my assistant manager. We have found 2 decent looking teen strikers, a marginal upgrade at center mid and the pride of our acquisitions, a grizzled 33 year old center back who should provide more cohesion to our sorry back line. At the salary I am pay him, he had better! |
