Default Game becomming unplayable - Late goals

Okay - I'm in my 2nd season as Liverpool and I've lost all joy for the game purely because of late goals. Even when I put 5 men in defence with 15 minutes to go, the oppo will grab at least one goal back!

2 - 1 win Man City - 88 min goal
2 - 4 loss Middlesborough - 84 min & 88 min goals
2 - 2 Charlton - 87 min goal
2 - 2 Portsmouth - 84 min goal

That's just in my last 10 fixtures.

Am I missing something or is this a bug (8.0.1) in the game! Can I do anything more tactically to avoid conceeding like this!

Thanks
Dan

God.

Simply throwing five in defence dosen't mean you won't concede goals. You've just had a tough run - like in real life.

Takes a lot mre than 5 in defence, you have to watch the marking when they throw LF & RF up with strikers amongst other things.

It's more than a bad run, it happens constantly in any save I play--no matter how easily I've held them the entire game or by how many I'm winning by--If there are less than 10 minutes left and I see them move near my net, I just say to myself 'That's a goal'. It's a bit absurd, how often it occurs. I can't even remember if I've had a 0-0 draw in FM08.

have you never seen game stagnate because one team throws more players behind the ball

To the original question, sometimes it helps to to set your full backs to rarely make forward runs

One suggestion I've seen:
If you think the opposition is going to go for a 4-2-4 in the last 10 minutes or so, beat them to it.
It seems to work for me, I've snatched quite a few wins/draws doing that and it's a lot better than standing meekly by as your GK gets pelted from all angles.
You've got to watch out for some AI managers getting wise to it eventually, and of course with the seemingly interminable wait to have your tactics implemented you can sometimes end up switching to 4-2-4 at the same time as the oppo. Sit back and enjoy the lottery if that happens cos someones gonna score.

Let me just get this straight......

You can't stop conceding late goals, so the game is unplayable?

ps. with the utmost of respect, it's not as if you're defence is watertight the rest of the time.

Man City, you concede a late goal but still win.

Boro, you concentrate on the 84th minute goal put forget about the other 3 goals you conceded.

Charlton. You concede an 87th minute goal, but had already conceded a goal before that.

Portsmouth. You concede an 84th minute goal but again had already conceded before that.

I would suggest that the problem is the number of goals you are conceding full-dtop. Not the number of late goals you are conceding.

pps. It's just me but if the AI goes 424 I don't stick everyone behind the ball. What that does is invite wave after wave of attacks and it's likely that they will score. I counter attack and make use of the space they leave behind them and use the ball more effectively than them. They are using a carp formation for keeping posession so instead I pass them to death. Attack is the best form of defence.
