Default Can a manager get the flu?

I just thought of this. It's silly, i know, but i'm surprised it never comes up.

Why can't managers get the flu, or a virus? Or even a cold? I mean, you're around the players just as much as their teammates, right? Surely if you leave a player to the physio after getting a virus, the manager should have just as good a chance as anyone to catch it. And then you can decide whether you want to send yourself home, or leave yourself to the physio . Or perhaps you are just sent home for a few days until the next matchday.

Us managers are a tough bunch and a Lemsip should do the trick.

Seriuosly though, it wouldn't affect a manager anywhere near the level it would affect a player as there is a lot less physical work needed.

The manager has a small rectangular area in which to pace and shout and a nice seat for when he is feeling tired. The players have to give 100% of themselves usually at a very high tempo which, when suffering from flu, would be a serious problem.

Well, at the very least, you'd be a liability if you have something, because you can spread it to the players.

And pacing around a rectangle only happens once a week...the rest of the time the manager is probably slightly closer to the players than that.

A flu?

Heck, my manager had a heart attack. But you'll have to read my story to find out.

You can. Just pretend and then go on holiday.

"Lads, I'm afraid I'm coming down with the flu. Keep training and listen to the ass man. I'll see you lot Saturday."

yeh actually its true. you cant actually wait for the news to tell you that you're sick..

Manager So & So has come down with a flu. Then you will be like.. "oh its ok.. wait.. that's me!"

so going on holiday will just do the trick.

Why don't managers have car accidents and die?

I think it's a great suggestion. It should affect you rather like a touchline ban, and perhaps not being able to respond to news items for 2 days.

I strongly disagree, if you're gonna include things like that you should include what every day people face too, like traffic so you're late at training one day and can't direct it properly or your son is sick and you miss work for a couple of days or one of your family member dies so you miss a game or 2... I personally think this would be trying to push realism too far and I'll very rarely say that but we as managers (remember it's a game) should be able to play every day of our career, because it's a game.
