Default Press Conferences

Why getting annoyed with the confidence system, outlined by MANY threads in here I had an idea to make it work much better. Probably not for the patch but FM2009. The idea is that we, as managers hold 'press conferences'. Now I don't mean that it has to be presented that way but it could be a news item much like the start of season expectations.

I linked this idea to the confidence feature and this is my idea to help that feature work more smoothly. When signing a player, I think we should have a press conference type message come through. This would involve a set of questions....

<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>"You've not spent alot on this player, do you really see him becoming a big part of the team here?"
<LI>"This player is only 19 years old, do you see him breaking into the first team squad any time soon?"
<LI>"This player is one with a big reputation and you have spent alot of money on him, will he become a key part of your squad."</UL>

Obviously, there is more. You could respond with a selection of answers. A couple of examples could follow...

<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>"The fee is nominal and I've primarely bought the player as backup but he's good enough to break into the first team if he plays well"
<LI>"He won't play alot as of yet. He's really a purchase for the future so I would like to ask the fans to give him time to develop and reach his potential.
<LI>"I have spent alot on this player and I expect big things from him, he will be a great acquisition for us, I'm sure."</UL>

This would give the fans an idea of what you expect from each signing and they would obviously expect more from the third example but may not be too harsh on the 19y/o who won't play much.

The problem might be that it may be repetative like most of the media comments but I still think it would be a good addition to the game.

Erm, discuss

i was thinking about this the other day, and i also thought it would be more realistic to include a "press handling" attribute.

oh, and it would be good to include interviews after every match, either tv, local or national newspaper, to boost this attribute. character plays a large part in a managers reputaion irl.

On the "negative" side:

1. I'd worry about repetition
2. How does it provide something beyond the current "role" which we promise a player as part of the contract?

On the "plus" side:

3. I think it could help to set the fan expectations of a signing.
4. It could also be used to reassure existing players who might worry that their place is coming under threat.

But really, I'd rather that #3 be drawn from the "role" promised to the player as well.

That was the key when thinking about this.

Something I thought of too but that would be no different to how the current media is in all honesty.

It's not really for the players, it's more for the media and fans to know what to expect. It could take the pressure of a younger player as he's not expected to perform every match by both media and fans.

Also, for realism.

I like that idea but I think that would just be another pointless stat like loyality etc. Not entriely pointless but you get what I mean

I think in the monthly board reports, when the main complint is that the fans think that "player x" to be a bad signing, then we, as the manager, should be able to defend our decision to sign him.

good idea. but hopefully, the patch will sort out your DM & CMs getting 5-6s for match ratings while everyone else in your team is winning the league and cups.

i'd be more impressed with a fan recognition of a player for the future or for backup.
