Default Couple of Key Man questions

1) Why is the key man sometimes different to the dangerman? Isnt it the same thing?

2) Why does the key man always change in a team? I've noticed just on my team, that about 4 players have been key men. Shouldnt you just have the one key man all season long?

3) How can a key man that gets a match rating of 6 be classified as having a solid game? 6 is a bad game, especially that from your key man. 7 should be a solid game!

The whole "key man " feature is flawed.

The key man is chosed by the game at the start of each match, so cant be the same throughout the season. Your key man might be a DC but he is unlikely to be a dangerman, so there is a difference. 6 is the starting point rating in FM 08 and I think the rating of " solid " means average so perhaps 6 is about right. 7 is an above average rating. I wouldnt worry too much about it because the feature is cosmetic only and serves no other function.

Key men change all the time IRL - you'll see it in the papers saying "Key man - (Whoever)" then the next time said team plays it'll be "Key man - (Whoever else)".

I do agree that 6 isn't a solid game, '08 ratings are a little bit stuck in the mid-range of 5 -(rarely)8
I think 8 is a solid game, especially for a key man.
Look at a real life match for comparison and the player ratings the next day in the paper;
Steven Gerrard would be considered a "Key Player" and if his rating was 6/7 it would say something like;

"Played ok, but not up to his usual standards."

He's almost expected to get a 8 or 9 every match and even then it would just be another "Solid display".

I was wondering

Dangerman and Key man are different things, like FrazT said if your keyman is your GK or DC then he isn't really going to be your dangerman. Also I think that your Keyman can change over the season. If your keyman plays really badly for half of the season, he won't really stay as the key man. I think it should stay as one man for the majority though, but it's not an all important feature so I can live with it. I'd prefer confidence to be fixed first

Actually I think it's because the OP posted two other threads with some questions in them. Not relating to this one though, so I don't see a problem.

Thanks for the answers. I still consider anything under match rating 8 for a key man to be a failure. Oh well, its a new feature and hopefully SI will rectify it for `09.

I assumed the key man changed depending on either a) form or b) who you were playing against.

For my Leeds team in 2010, if I'm playing Man U or Chelsea my key man tends to be Breno (DC) or Pletikosa (GK), but if I'm up against a mid-table or lower team it tends to be Stancu (ST) or whoever my highest scoring striker happens to be.

I know it's cosmetic and doesnt really affect the game, but am I far off on this?

I assume the analysis of how well he did is based purely on the rating and doesn't take into account the fact that you might expect a higher rating from a key man than any other player of the same rating.

So 6 being solid sounds fine, but you would perhaps expect something more than a "solid" performance from your key man.

At Fiorentina my key man was almost always listed as my goalkeeper
