Default Suicidal football!

Just because I much prefer anti-brag threads to brag threads...

Ah don't you just love it when you start a new season full of hope and expectation and then your first game goes pear-shaped after 2 minutes and then gets progressively worse?!

Valur 7-1 IA Akranes wasn't quite how I had hoped to start the season, but the manner of the defeat was most galling. I've had bigger defeats in the past (e.g. Arsenal 7-0 Derby when I just cranked up our attacking more and more after each of their goals went in!), but none quite so self-defeating.

We conceded a penalty after 2 minutes, then conceded another after 5 minutes, then had a centre-back sent off after 8 minutes. I respond by doing nothing other than centralising my one remaining centre-back. 10 minutes later our left-back and captain is sent off. I make a minor concession to defending by moving my right-back infield and dropping my wingers back to wing-backs. So I'm 2-0 down with 9 men and 70 minutes to go

Then the goals continue to fly in before we at some point pull one back. Then our emergency right wing-back who conceded the first penalty (for which he got a yellow) decides he'll give away another penalty and get sent off. By this time I couldn't be bothered changing tactics so we carried on with 2 defenders, nobody at all on the right side of the pitch and a left winger out of position attempting to defend on the other side!

So all in all we gave away 3 penalties and has 3 men sent off in 5 separate incidents. At least we didn't score an own goal, but then we barely had enough players on the pitch to get hold of the ball long enough to put it through our own net anyway!

What is everyone else's most suicidal performance...or do other people have well-behaved teams? :p

Look on the bright side- it can only go up from this starting point.

I conceded 4 against a MLS team in pre season.

DL AML

DC FC
MC AMC
DC FC

DR AMR

Not a particularly defensive team anyway. In preseason made my MC more Stevie G than their usual holding "DO NOT ATTACK" mode. Full backs are basically converted wingers anyway.

Won 12-4 anyway.

Accidently starting one of my defenders in goal away against bayern in the champions league. Didnt realise until i decided to make substitutions in the 75/80th minute. Lost 5-1. Oops, i consoled myself by telling myself we would have lost anyway but still bitter pill to swallow

I just lost a pre-season friendly with Mk Dons away to Newcastle 8-2

Maybe I shouldn't have used my League 2 tactics lol

Strange thing was though that posession was 50/50, they had about 30 shots whereas I had 23 I think so it was quite close statistically.

I had to go to commentary only though as I was getting annoyed seeing their shots going through my keeper lol

I guess I should have used my friendlies leading up to that match more sensibly! I did a tour of the Faroe Islands hoping for a bit of shooting practice and a morale boost to make us look like world beaters.

Instead I couldn't resist seeing if we could blow them off the park by playing every single player on Gung Ho mentality, defense pushed up as far as possible and playing the offside trap.

We managed to lose one of the games 3-1 having drawn the previous one 3-3. Obviously I readjusted my tactics for that Valur kickoff to something more sensible and no Gung Ho and no idiotic offside trap (I'm never brave enough to use that in a real game...I just have visions of opposition strikers constantly getting behind my defence!).

As an aside, Valur had 38 shots on goal (24 on target) in that match. It's a long time since I've seen that many shots on goal, esp. from a match supposedly between two roughly equal teams (well...equal for the 8 minutes when we had 11 men anway!)

I was playing with Athletico Madrid and did surprisingly well, Not losing anything or letting in any goals. Then all of a sudden I face these teams:

Matchday four: Barcelona
Matchday five: Valencia
Matchday Six: Real Madrid
Matchday Seven:Villareal
Matchday Eight: Sevilla

Barcelona gave me a real thrasing which ended in a 8-2 victory for them, Forlan scored two, but that hardly helped...

Against Valencia I was at fresh courage, but was destroyed after a mere 5 minutes by David villa and in the 20th by Silva. They went on to win 3-0. Forlan began to heavily decline in performance..

Against Real Madrid I wasn't expecting anything, so watching my team getting beat 5-0 made me angry, but I knew something like that would happen... Forlan got a rating of 3... Which made me quite angry with him...

Villareal! Time to turn things around! But no.... Mati Fernandez didn't want to play well against his former club and Simao was acting like a puppet... Giuseppe Rossi showed me why I never wanted him to leave ManUtd and scored an hatrick. Forlan got a rating of 5...

Sevilla. I finally decided to drop Forlan, costy mistake as I lost 4-0 with very few shots on target...

I was quite puzzled about this for a while, until I noticed that the manager I created spoke norwegian, swedish, danish and english. But NOT Spanish! Apparently my players couldn't understand me.. Nifty feature, but oh so annoying...

I was bummed out for a few weeks because of that...
