OK guys, I have a bit of a dilemma as to who should take my free kicks.
I'm playing in the English Conference and it's quite hard to find a decent freekick taker at this level and I can't decide who should be my free kick taker.
On one hand, I have a technically poor central defender who somehow has 16(!) for free kicks, but poor technique(6), long shots(3), composure(9) finishing (4) and decisions(8). etc. The AI sets him to be the default free kick taker, but I've read on these forums that a good free kick taker also needs to have a combination of attributes, not just the free kick stat.
I've currently got a striker with only 11 for free kicks, but has much better attributes elsewhere. He has 11 for long shots/technique, 12 for finishing / decisions and 14 for composure as well as 17 for flair (don't know if flair helps in freekicks?).
So pretty much, it comes down to:
Defender VS Striker
Free kicks: 16 / 11
Finishing: 4 / 12
Long shots: 3 / 11
Composure: 8 / 14
Technique: 6 / 11
Decisions 8 / 12
Flair: 4 / 17
As you can see my striker is a much more 'rounded' player. My only question is - are all his other stats enough to make him a better free kick taker than my defender? And if he is, why is the AI making my defender the default free kick taker?
I know I can 'experiment' but it will take at least half a season to compile enough stats to make a decent comparison between the two.
FWIW, I'm currently using the defender for freekicks and he has scored a few 25 - 30 yard screamers David Beckham would be proud of.
