Default What mentality and target man supply are best to create shots on target?

Hi Guys I am new to this forum.

I have read a number of the tactics guides and they are very useful, but one thing I am still unsure about.

I am playing as Southampton in the Championship, and particularly at home I am struggling to create very many shots, particularly on target.

I tend to play a more attacking mentality (11 to 14) with tempo of 10 to 12 and passing of short to mixed (6 to 9) and tend to focus passing down both wings. However, I struggle to create more than about 7 shots in any match and only 1 or 2 on target.

My first choice strikers have finishing of 12 to 15 and composure of about 10 to 14, but they have heading of 7 to 11. I try to nrmally have target man supply set to mixed.

My question is does the tempo or mentality affect the number of chances you will create (I realise that if you set either of these to a mad setting like 18 to 20 you will either expose yourself to counter attacks or create fewer clear chances but does this mean to create plenty of chances you need to set both to (1 to 5) or are there other more important factors to set in team or player settings?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

my understanding of it is if you play slower tempo and shorter passing you should create less chances but the majority of there should be on target while playing direct and fast will create more but less on target. depends on your players though. I'm newcastle and i use 433 direct and quick but with a playmaker who keeps putting passes through meaning i get 4 or 5 one-on-ones per game - strikers still don't score them all though. bloody martins!

Thanks old gregg. My problem is that although I have my tempo set to slow (about 7) I'm not creating many chances (last game was 5, but only 1 of them was on target. Ahhhh. I assume I have another reason within my settings, or is it just that my strikers/ attacking midfielders haven't got a high enough composure rating.

My team is really struggling to score, and I often lose 1-0 late on, and I feel this is because a lot of my games I am on the back foot and the opposition create more chances than me and on the law of averages will score eventually.

Should I up the tempo and look at creating lots of chances and hope I score eventually, or percevere with the slow tempo and wait for the team to gel with the tactic?
