Default Why is Queen's Park an amateur team?!?

Just started my career in FM2008 and won the Northern Irish Second Division title with QUB and got approached in the summer of 2008 by Queen's Park and I gladly accepted. Then I noticed that despite a great club valuation and stadium the team itself is an amateur team...playing in the Scottish Third Division? Why? And will they ever go semi-professional and so forth??? Thanks for the answers!

No, they should always stay amateur.

Try a search, there was a thread about this recently.

Queens Park will always be an amateur club, following link should help explain better than I could.

www.queensparkfc.co.uk/history/intro.html

In essence it's a historical belief in the corinthian spirit.

When everyone else became professional they wanted to stick to their amateur ethos. Back in those Victorian days they were one of the best teams around.

Of course once the Scottish league started and Rangers and Celtc paid their players they were left behind (forever).

Now I understand. It is a bit silly though in sense of ambition. If you never pay anyone anything in modern football, you'll never win anything. And every club can poach your amateur players for free... This should be fun! A great romantic vision, but not very wise in a footballing sense... I'll give it a go anyway and see what happens...

QP decided many years ago that the game was about more than just winning silverware, although considering they were highly successful in the late 1800's (incuding 2 English FA Cup final appearances) it was an easy stance to take.
