Jakobsen is infamous around these parts
Default Any network experts out there?

Me and my mate just started a terrific game the other day, but as we are very busy in our daily life we wish to continue playing through the internet instead of getting together and play through a local network. And further more I won’t see his ugly face every time he wins a match

But how is this done?

We tried everything I think. But still he cannot connect.

I run as the server (And he is not of cause).

I am giving him the IP address to type in listed in the game status which is the same as the one listed in the internet connection icon in the buttom left corner in windows.

We are both connected wireless to the internet through a router (Also tried through cable).

Anybody?... Please help?

And sorry if this is the wrong place to ask or if this have been asked before.

this is a question for FM Online mate, and you will need to port-forward your router so he can connect to you. Post the question in the header for questions in the FM Online section of the forums and someone should take you through the process

By the way.. We have both allowed FM8 as a firewall exception, so that is not the problem.

make sure you both have the same version/patch, plus he only types in the first part of the I.P address, so if its 18.06.20/578.01.06 you just write in 18.06.20 hope this helps, network games are ace

is not just a "firewall exception" problem. You have to set up the router, to route internet packages on your local computer.

Better, faster, easier: use hamachi (www.hamachi.cc)

how to?
just download the free version (both), create a private network, connect each other, launch the game. You "run as server", and your friend will see the game into lan games, if he doesn't just do "connect to ip" and put the hamachi one (yours).

Enjoy

wouldn't they both need static IP addresses as well?

As said you need to set up your router to forward the ports correctly.

Ports 10093-10094 need to be forwarded to the computer on the network that is running FM (for both TCP and UDP protocols I believe).

You don't need static IP addresses.

you DO need if you redirect ports. With hamachi you do not need instead.

I'd debate the "better, faster" point. Because it's not better and it's not faster and not as secure (if you do things properly that is). However, it is handy if you don't have a clue about port forwarding.

As I said you DON'T need static IP address's, if you use DHCP then you may need to change the port forwarding rule if your computers IP address alters. My router you set the rule to forward it to a particular computer regardless of the IP address (BT Home Hub), on some routers the memory of the computers that have been on the network are stored and if they re-connect they are automatically re-assigned the address they last had.

As well your claims on hamachi being better and faster make no sense on account of you still using the same internet connection, it doesn't magically increase your bandwidth, there are also extra security issues when using vpn's. Not to mention a quick scan over the companies website tells me it'll take no more than 10mins to set up, forwarding ports took me less than a minute.
