Default Chelsea's Defense...

To be more exact, Chelsea's defense when playing against one man up front.

(I have searched and couldn't find this anywhere else, but if it is, delete the thread by all means etc etc)

I am Newcastle (well, someone has to be) and have since downloading 8.02, been buying Guilhemre, who is class btw, and operate him as my loan striker.
Anyway, by the time I've sold most of the Toon squad, I have enough to buy Farfan, Nihat, Lucho Gonzales, Makoun and Van Der Vaart too - and in each new game I've began in 8.02, I'm doing ok (and the match engine in fantastic now, imo).

So anyway, back to the point.

I've played Chelsea a number of time and have had better than could be expected results.
I've actually just played a game with them and won 6-3 - Guilhemre score all six in the first half.

What's interesting though, is that each time I play them, I notice the same thing.

Alex and Terry are all over the place and neither mark Guilhemre - both go thundering towards my wide players, Farfan and Nihat every time I attack, essentially doubling up with Cole and Belletti - which obviously leaves a huge gap right down the middle where Guilhemre is - and he is good enough to take the ball, run a few yards and either take it round the keeper or smash one in from 20 yards.

All very nice and I love beating Chelsea - but something is very, very wrong with the way they defend.

I have to say, I've only noticed this with Chelsea, but it may be happening with other teams...

Is this a "bug defending against one striker"?

Anyone else noticed this when playing Chelsea in particular?

(P.S. this is after 8.02)

i play quite badly against chelsea but i have noticed that the top teams defenses are extremely solid.

15 games and chelsea manutd and arsenal have only conceeded about 3 goals each.

Having played AS chelsea, they have struggled when facing utd when only rooney was up front on his own. For exactly the reason you stated, JT and carvalho just charged off toward the wingers.

I tweaked closing down to get rid of this prob (and set one of them to tightly mark roo) but maybe they just have a particular combination of stats that makes them forget about the CF?

I'm glad you've noticed this Ched, there is definitely something not quite right.

I think I've only noticed it with Chelsea because it's a massive shock to ever come away with anything from there, but seeing as nearly every time I go there and play one man up top, I get a very good result - far too good tbh.

Postal Postie, would you try playing one man up top against Chelsea next time you play them? See what happens?
Cheers.
