Well I have tried various tactics that I have never seen in the game. I have also seen the AI use tactics that I wouldn't.

As to whether I was trying to exploit a flaw in the AI, even conciously, no. I was trying to go back to my youth with full backs half backs etc.

Uunless you are deliberately trying to take advantage of a flaw in the AI, anything goes. In the days of the wibble/wobble screen my tactics looked like Custer's last stand.

Oh well of course I wouldn't be trying to take advantage of game flaws etc, its just I think a large part of LLMing is playing realistically, yet playing within the realms of the game at the same time. So by playing with 10 defensive midfielders, for example, because I think thats the best approach - and when no one else is doing it, and even the best AI tacticians in the game arent likely to do it - doesnt seem in the spirit of the game to me.

Im now starting to feel Im quite Zealotted.....and I still need convincing.

And yes - I understand its only a game :-)

To be honest I dont know why I even bothered to ask the question - whatever tactical system I end up using I'll still end up being relegated from the Papa New Guinean Amateur Reserve Fourth Division (South) with three games to go becasue all of my 18 wingers have 'Shattered Spines'.

Your problem, therank, was tactic naming which breaks forum rules. The only tactic that shall be named in these parts is the "Left Sided Sweeper".

I think you worry unduly. Most (all) of us play something approximating a real life tactic; though, when I see Gil's and Goncalo's in the online game, I sometimes wonder.

Im well aware of the rules here because Im always on here reading discussions. The reason I never post is due to this kind of thing where rather than have a discussion about football and a game we all love to play, you spend most of your free time defending yourself over something and nothing.

I hardly named a tactic - mainly because I dont really have one. I just named a formation and an incredibly widespread one at that. Its hardly tipping or cheating or what have you.

And I understand that it opens the floodgates and all that stuff yes. But if youre rational and sensible you would realise that the intention was to get a discussion going and maybe get an answer to a question thats been bugging me for quite some time.

I always play with something approaching a real life scenario - hence me being a LLaMa. I dont really care what anyone else is using to be honest and that wasnt the question I asked in the first place.

Im really not trying to start a war or anything - just to have a healthy debate about they way the game should or shouldnt be played.

As you ask, what is a realistic tactic in LLM? Well, you can look back at the way the game was played waaaay back in the day, where there were six forwards, and then see how it has evolved - I think the same logic applies to LLM realism... asking why it has evolved, and why you don't see tactics deviating from these. I believe FM is the same...
