in my game I'm up to 2010 playing mainly the english leagues, and I had a look at the SPL and there has been no league since the first season. The cups are still played but none of the leagues work!! Which sucks because it means none of the Scottish players ever have match fitness. Help me!!!

Fixed in the latest patch, wasn't it? Are you using 8.02?
